2021 Lexus IS 350 F Sport vs. 2021 BMW 330i

Overview

If you're planning to get a new sporty sedan in 2021, you want to be sure you're driving the best. The Lexus IS 350 F Sport and the BMW 330i are both great options to consider in 2021, but there are some differences you should know about as you decide which is right for you.

Exterior (Overall Design)

Both of these cars are instantly recognizable by their grilles and well-designed outlines. They're also the same height and length, essentially, with the Lexus just a tad wider. But looking at them as they sit on the curb, only one truly stands out. That's the Lexus. This is just a gorgeous car to look at, and it turns heads wherever you go. You can't read a review of the Lexus IS 350 without seeing effusive praise of this design. It's just a stand-out, and everyone notices it. The sweeping, aggressive lines have a 21st century, sporty styling that makes the BMW look a bit dated. The BMW is certainly not a bad-looking car, of course. Both these vehicles radiate their quality build, even from a distance. But the BMW's rounded look seems a few years behind these days.

Interior Features

Both of these sedans feature standard connectivity to Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and more. You'll also have access to lots of other goodies, both tech and comfort, like remote keyless start and entry, premium sound systems that have HD and satellite radio and MP3 players, heated seats and steering wheels, power-adjustable seats, and lots more. But that's not the whole story. Lexus has been making a name for itself by offering nearly all these features standard. With the BMW, you'll have to pay for every upgrade: and the BMW already costs more. Both sedans are tasteful inside, with plenty of premium interior materials and trims to choose from. If you are a tall driver, you might want to go with the extra legroom in the front of the Lexus. The bucket seats on both are fixed in great positions and are easy to adjust with the power adjust features. Both are very supportive, though the BMW is slightly less comfortable.

Engines

The Lexus gets the most horsepower at 311hp. The BMW generates 255hp, and both are paired to 8-speed automatic transmissions. You'll notice the smooth shifting and good, responsive acceleration out of both. They also both have very precise steering, making those tight turns a joy to run. However, the Lexus has a sporty responsiveness and feel that the BMW is lacking. That feel makes it a lot of fun to drive; particularly on those winding mountain roads.

Safety Features

Both of these cars have a full set of airbags, though the Lexus has two that the BMW doesn't: knee airbags, and rear side airbags. Both of them also come with lots of safety tech, like:

  • Backup camera
  • Cross-traffic alert
  • Blind-spot monitor
  • Lane-keeping assist
  • Lane-departure warning
  • Stability control
  • Traction control
  • However, it's worth knowing that while nearly all the safety tech is standard on the Lexus, a lot of it is upgrade-only on the BMW.
