History
Lexus introduced the ES (Elegant Sedan) series in 1989 with the 250, the smaller companion to the 400. Through seven generations, the ES has remained at the forefront of ride quality in terms of comfort, quietness, and amenities. A five-passenger, four-door sedan, the ES 300h was introduced in 2018 and proudly carries that tradition to this day.
Engine and Transmission
The 300h features a 2.5-liter inline 4-cylinder engine and electric motor. Combined, they produce 215 horsepower and an EPA fuel rating of 43 in the city / 44 mpg on the highway. The impressive fuel efficiency is aided by the Continuously Variable Transmission, which shifts gears smoother and more efficiently than a traditional automatic.
What’s New to the 2021 ES 300h?
With safety in mind, Lexus has added a rear cross-traffic alert system to the ES 300h Luxury and Ultra Luxury trims. The system warns the driver when vehicles make sudden lane changes from behind or lurk in the ES’ blind spots.
ES 300h Pricing, Standard and Optional Features
- Base Model:
The base 300h isn’t bare bones. Its standard features include LED headlights and a sunroof. The interior is done in simulated leather upholstery with power-adjusting front seats. There is an 8-inch control panel with a Wi-Fi hotspot that is Apple CarPlay and Android Auto capable and connected to a 10-speaker sound system. On the safety side, the standard package includes forward collision mitigation, lane-keeping technology, and adaptive cruise control.
- ES 300h Luxury:
Along with upgrading the interior to leather upholstery and wood trim, the mid-level 300h offers heated and ventilated front seats, a power rear sunshade, a rear cross-traffic alert system with blindspot monitoring, and front and rear parking sensors.
- ES 300h Ultra Luxury:
The top-level ES hybrid adds a heated steering wheel, rear-door sunshades, a hands-free trunk control, automatic rear-braking with pedestrian detection, and upgraded suspension.
Additional Packages
For those who want more, the Ultra Luxury can be equipped with a Mark Levinson audio package that features a 17-speaker, 1800-watt surround-sound audio system, a navigation system with a 12.3-inch multimedia display, Dynamic voice command, and Lexus Enform Destination Assist. In addition, premium triple-beam LED headlamps can be installed, a head-up display, and a wireless charger.
