The engine in your Lexus is the most complex and expensive part of your car. It consists of a multitude of parts, all of which must work in synchronization for your car to work. Age, metal fatigue, and wear can all lead to engine problems. As your Lexus dealer, we can repair any problems with your engine. These are a few of the problems that you may experience that will need to be repaired.

The Engine Won’t Start

When you turn the key, your engine should start almost immediately. Your battery sends a charge to your starter motor, which initiates the crank, and your engine will turn over. If nothing happens when you turn the key, several possible causes are a dead starter motor, a dead battery, or a worn-out alternator. You can test to see which is the cause of the problem.

Engine Repair in Mt. Kisco, NY

Attach jumper cables to your battery, and disconnect them as soon as your engine starts. If your engine doesn’t start, the starter is the problem. If your engine starts and dies almost immediately, the problem is due to a worn alternator. If your engine starts and continues to run, you have a dead battery. Our technicians can easily repair any of these problems.

Difficulty Accelerating

When you step on the gas, your engine should produce more power, and your transmission should shift you to a higher speed quickly and efficiently. If this doesn’t happen, several possible causes need to be investigated. Water may have gotten into your fuel tank, your air filter may be clogged, or your catalytic converter may be damaged.

Water in the fuel tank is usually easily resolved by draining the tank and refining it. If your air filter is clogged, it will prevent enough air from entering the combustion chamber to allow effective combustion. Finally, a damaged catalytic converter will produce a backflow of gasses that can’t escape via the exhaust. These gases will reenter the engine and reduce your engine’s power.

Blown Head Gasket

The head gasket provides a seal between the engine block and the cylinder heads. This seal must keep engine oil and coolant from mixing and prevent gases and liquids from escaping the cylinders. This seal can suffer wear, which can lead to the mixing of coolant and engine oil. It’s a problem that needs to be identified ASAP, as a leaking head gasket can fail.

If the head gasket blows, coolant and oil will mix and can enter the cylinders. Your engine’s compression will be reduced, making acceleration more difficult, and the loss of coolant can cause your engine to overheat. We can install a new head gasket for you, and it should be done ASAP to prevent more damage to your engine.
